A Message from the President

Each year at this time it always makes me think over everything I am thankful for.  Family, health, a roof over my head, but this year I was thinking of how thankful I am for CiHRG.  I am so grateful for the board of CiHRG and all they do to make this organization an asset to the members and our community.  In addition, I am thankful for the members of CiHRG, we have such a diverse group of professionals that have so much to offer.  Between the members of this organization we have a lot of experience and comprehension of the HR body of knowledge.

I am especially grateful this month for the growth that we have seen in CiHRG this year.  Becky Krueger, Membership Committee Chair and I went to the SHRM Leadership Conference this month and while there we were honored with an award from SHRM as a Membership Superstar!  The criteria for this award was a SHRM Chapter that experience more than 10% growth in 2008 (we had 20%, and the year is not over yet!)

I am also very thankful for the upcoming opportunity CiHRG has as the new President and Congress look to alter and add new employment laws, that could potentially be difficult on HR professionals around the county.  The CiHRG board and legislative committee will be here to meet this challenge to be sure members are aware of the changes as they happen.

I am grateful for Minor Jackson, who has agreed to serve as the new Chair of the Diversity Committee and I look forward to his leadership in this area.  I am equally grateful for Joe Streit who has agreed to serve as the new Chair for the Student Chapter Affairs Committee, he has already begun this position and the Wage and Salary Survey was just sent out to our membership.

I am thankful the members have voted and selected the slate of officers for 2009;  Tammy Hoggatt, SPHR, President; Stacey Cultra, President-Elect; Jenn Lance, Secretary; Deanna Wright, Treasurer. Thank you for the opportunity to continue serving as the President CiHRG and hope that each member is willing to share with me how we can move this organization forward to continue to meet your needs.

I want to mention so many others but I must point out how appreciative I am for Sue Key who has served as the CiHRG Secretary for the last two years, she has been an asset to our organization and has worked countless hours in this position.  We are so fortunate that she has agreed to serve as our Public Relations Committee Chair for 2009.

WORKFORCE READINESS COMMITTEE

CiHRG is looking for someone to chair the Workforce Readiness committee: 

The Workforce Readiness Chair serves as an appointed member of the chapter Board of Directors and is responsible for encouraging and coordinating chapter activities impacting the workforce; serving as workforce readiness/development liaison to local schools, businesses and the community; and collaborating with such entities to address local workforce issues through education and partnerships

Membership News

 

Our Chapter has achieved Membership Superstar (or Star) status based on our numbers for October 31, 2008!  This means that we have achieved a 10%+ growth - Superstar - in SHRM members as of the above date. This also means that our Chapter was recognized for this significant achievement at SHRM's Annual Leadership Conference last  week in Arlington, VA., through:

 

 

Note:  Guests who attend a meeting for the first time receive a complimentary lunch.  Thereafter, lunches are $12 per person.
